The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii, is proud to offer its guests privileged access to one of the best Big Island golf courses,
The Francis H. I'i Brown Golf Course
In the world of golf, the Big Island is regarded as the pinnacle of playgrounds, a land of uncommon beauty, startling diversity, and welcoming weather. Here, alongside The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii, is an award-winning 36-hole championship Hawaii golf course.
The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii provides a beautiful and challenging course for pros and amateurs alike. The resort is adjacent to the award-winning Francis H. I'i Brown Golf Course, offering 36 holes of continuous play, and is consistently lauded as one of the world's top golf resorts by readers of Condé Nast Traveler magazine. This exceptional Big Island golf course has spectacular scenery with ocean views and green fairways patterned with black lava.
The Francis H. I'i Brown Course opened in 1981, and has secured its place among the finest courses in the world. Golf Magazine called it 'one of the most breathtakingly beautiful seaside golf courses in the world' and awarded it a gold medal as one of this country's finest golf resort courses.
The course was designed to have two distinct 18-hole complexes, the south and north course, each capturing unique characteristics of the landscape. Both Hawaii golf courses will satisfy every level, appealing to the recreational golfer and ready to be tightened up to meet the demands of tournament play.
The South Course - Par 72
The South Course is built on the prehistoric Kaniku lava flow, geologically a relatively young flow. The resort course snakes through stark, rugged, a'a lava. Volcano goddess Pele reigns supreme on this course. If she favors you, balls hit into the lava will miraculously bounce back into the fairway. If not, kiss them good-bye. Aside from great Hawaii golf, this challenging course offers the golfer a range of mountain and ocean views and was home of the Senior Skins Game for 10 years.

The North Course - Par 72
The North Course, although a resort course, is excellent for tournament play. Built on a lava bed much older than the Kaniku lava flow on which the south course lies, it is characterized by rolling terrain and kiawe (mesquite) groves. Trees often come into play on this course. A 230-acre protected archaeological district touches the northern boundary of the course. Herds of feral goats frequent the entire course, moving from hole to hole throughout the day.
