Welcome to St. Andrews by the Sea and the Fairmont Algonquin Golf Course and Academy.  Golf began in St. Andrews in 1894 when a short course was erected on the lawns of the Algonquin Hotel – a nine-hole pitch and putt.  In 1895, the course was moved to Cottage Field, located along Joe’s Point Road.  In 1896, Robert S. Gardiner donated a golf clubhouse and the course was expanded to 18 holes.  The Algonquin Golf Club in New Brunswick, along with the original clubhouse, are known as being the oldest in Atlantic Canada.

Ranked by Score Magazine (2006) in the Top 100 Courses in Canada, Best in New Brunswick, this Seaside Masterpiece created by Thomas McBroom features a dynamic sequence of forested woodland front nine complemented by a picturesque seaside back nine.  The 18 hole par 72 course ranges from 5,207 to 6,908 yards and will challenge golfers of all levels.  With bent grass tees, fairway and greens this New Brunswick golf course offers a manicured look that is the perfect contrast to the fescue rough and the rugged shoreline of the Bay of Fundy.

A Seaside Jewel, shaped over time
Over time, the course took on new configurations beginning with the Canadian Pacific Railroad's acquisition of the Algonquin Hotel and Golf Course in 1903.  In 1915, when the “Poor House” farm was acquired, the course changed to include two new holes and the building of a new clubhouse “located closer to the Hotel."  It was in the 1920’s when the golf course became associated with Donald Ross.  He submitted suggested changes that would improve playability and lengthen the course.  In 1929, an executive course was built on the remaining land of the Poor House farm property.

In the fall of 1998, construction began to upgrade the Algonquin Golf Course into a signature facility.  Thomas McBroom was selected as the designer and in July of 1999, the first 9-holes of the golf course were completed.  On July 15, 2000, the full 18-holes were opened for play including a new clubhouse, exhilarating vistas of the Passamaquoddy Bay, the Town of St. Andrews and The Fairmont Algonquin Hotel.  We invite all golfers to enjoy an exciting and challenging round of New Brunswick golf on grounds over 100 years old, filled with history, folklore and breathtaking views; where moments are turned into memories for you and future generations.

"We were playing the fourteenth hole when my dad made an ace. The ball landed on the front edge of the green and the ball rolled in like a thirty foot putt!"
